Charcoal briquettes can be made from materials containing lignin and cellulose such as waste or organic waste
found in human life in the form of gelam wood waste with high carbon lignocellulose content. The aim of this
research is to find the optimal time variation of press machine pressure in order to obtain the best quality gelam
charcoal briquettes. The method used in this study used CRD (completely randomized design) with 3 treatments
(pressure time 40 minutes, 30 minutes and 20 minutes under 30 bar pressure) and 5 repetitions, data analysis
used the ANOVA test if the results obtained had significant differences. then a further LSD (Least Significant
Difference) test will be carried out. The results of charcoal briquette testing based on Pressing Time showed that
the best time to press the quality of charcoal briquettes was treatment A (40 minutes pressure treatment with 30
bar pressure) with a density value of 0.614 g / cm3, water content 10.51%, compressive strength. 24.02 kg / cm2,
volatile matter content 33.60%, ash content 5.60% and bound carbon content 60.40%. From the test results data
on the physical, mechanical, and chemical properties of charcoal briquettes, some of the test values meet the
quality reference for charcoal briquettes according to the Forest Products Research and Development Center
(P3HH), SNI, England and Japan.
