Developing Strategies to promote Pantai Lango 56the boat craftsmanship" village as a destination of Balikpapan Bay Integrated Ecotourism
Abstract
Balikpapan Bay in East Kalimantan is a semi-enclosed water area that is rich in biodiversity and culture. Recent research has confirmed the existence of several protected species and cultural diversity within the area as potential Ecotourism Attractions. Integrated ecotourism development by involving villages around the area as ecotourism destinations is expected to be an alternative of a sustainable economic development and contribute efforts to preserve biodiversity. Data collection was carried out through a comprehensive observation survey which found that Pantai Lango Village has the potential to be developed as part of an integrated ecotourism destination in Balikpapan Bay. Data collection was continued by conducting interviews with several community representatives in Pantai Lango Village. In regard to the analysis process, two analytical methods are used, namely the fish bone analysis method to see how far the potential of the Lango beach vilage can meet the main components of an ecotourism destination. The second method, namely SWOT analysis, is used to examine internal and external factors of Lango Beach Village as an Ecotourism destination. The results of the SWOT analysis are used as main consideration for drafting the concept of developing Lango Beach Village "The Traditional-boat Craftsmanship Village" as one of main destinations for Integrated Ecotourism in Balikpapan Bay.
