Anti-diabetic And Antimicrobial Activities Of The Ethanolic Extract From Rhizophora Mucronata Leaf
Abstract
Objectives: The purpose of this work is to investigate the anti-diabetic and anti-microbial
properties of the ethanolic extract from Rhizophora mucronata leaf, as well as the phytochemical
elements present in the leaf extract. Materials and Methods: The extract from the R. mucronata
leaf sample was obtained using maceration in an ethanol based solvent. The ethanolic extract of
R. mucronata leaf was found to have anti-diabetic effect in mice, as evidenced by its ability to lower
blood glucose levels. Results: The administration of ethanolic extract at a dose of 600 mg/kg BW
resulted in the greatest amount of antidiabetic action. Because of the presence of contaminants in
the ethanolic extract, the anti-bacterial activity of the extract against tested bacteria and fungi was
similarly limited. A secondary metabolite analysis using LC-MS revealed that the ethanolic extract
of R. mucronata leaf contained 25 different secondary metabolite chemicals. Conclusion: Further
studies to purify and identify the compound in the ethanolic extract of R. mucronata are necessary
to develop this source as anti-microbial and anti-diabetic medicines based on natural products.
