Escherichia coli is a fecal coliform that originates from the intestines of humans and warm-blooded
animals. Escherichia coli bacteria can be found in nature commonly found in waters and sediments. In
nature, bacteria are useful as a degrading organic material but, if the amount of these bacteria is excessive
then it can be an indicator of pollution. Sampling and this research were conducted from January to March
2020 in Miang Besar Island waters. Sampling was carried out at stations that have some coral reef,
seagrass, and mangrove ecosystems. This study aims to determine the presence of Escherichia coli bacteria
with analysis. The research method used is the MPN (Most Probable Number) method for laboratory testing.
The laboratory test results were then analyzed by descriptive qualitative. MPN test results from this study
indicate that there are Escherichia coli bacteria in the waters of Miang Besar Island. The results obtained
on average in the seagrass ecosystem 11 MPN/ml, mangrove ecosystem 2 MPN/ml and community settlement
9 MPN/ml Escherichia coli bacteria in the waters while in the sediment obtained on average in the coral
reef ecosystem 3 MPN/ml, seagrass ecosystem 1.3 MPN/ml, mangrove ecosystem 3 MPN/ml, and community
settlement 20 MPN/ml. Based on KEPMEN-LH Number 51 of 2004 the test results of the presence of
Escherichia coli bacteria according to seawater quality standards
