Abstract: Xylocarpus granatum is a mangrove plant species that have been used by people as a traditional medicine, that contains many active compounds that function as antibacterial agent. This study was aimed to investigate the antibacterial activity and the active compounds contained in X. granatum methanol extract from Coastal Muara Badak. Part of X. granatum were tested include roots, seeds, fruit peel, pulp, stems and leaves. Before testing the materials have been extracted using maceration method with methanol. Agar diffusion method was used to test the antibacterial activity of X. granatum against S.aureus and E.coli. Phytochemical test was conducted on the test alkaloids, flavonoin, phenols, tannins, saponins, triterpenoids and steroids. The results showed that the methanol extract of X. granatum has antibacterial activity. The antibacterial activity of the fruit peel is the biggest against S.aureus and E.coli, giving 10.3 mm and 9.3 mm diameter of inhibition, respectively. The phytochemical test showed that X. granatum positive contains flavonoids, saponins, tannins and phenols, especially in the roots, seeds, fruit peel, pulp and stems, while the leaves contained only phenol.
