Abstract: Oils have different compatibility within a heavy equipment and affect machine performance. Therefore, an oil type identification tool has been developed in this study using a light dependent resistor (LDR) sensor. The oil used as the object of testing is under the Caltex brand with types SAE 10, SAE 30, SAE 40, SAE 90, and SAE 140 with viscosity values of 6.0 cSt, 11.7 cSt, 13.7 cSt, 14.2 cSt, and 25.5 cSt respectively. The test is carried out by placing an oil sample between the light source and the LDR sensor. The intensity of light received by the sensor is strongly influenced by the brightness of the color of the oil sample used. The analog value from the sensor is then acquired by the Arduino Nano microcontroller for further processing. The test results show that the designed tool has worked well and able to recognize the type of oil with an accuracy rate of 96.7%.
