Abstract: | Waste management is a way for humans to make residual material resulting from human and natural activities so that it does not interfere with human activities or is made in such a way that it can be utilized. One of the waste generators is the campus area, so proper waste management is needed to reduce the burden of environmental pollution and provide benefits from waste management. This study aims to determine the waste management system carried out in the Laboratory Building of the Faculty of Public Health, Mulawarman University. The research design used is quantitative by observing waste management using scoring, completing a questionnaire on waste sorting problems by waste management officers, and calculating waste generation referring to SNI 19-3964-1994 to see the potential for waste management in planning waste management programs at the Faculty of Public Health Mulawarman University. The results showed that the waste management carried out on each floor of the laboratory building was in the sufficient category, and only 1 location was a good category. The segregation of waste has not been carried out optimally in terms of the aspects of regulations, facilities and infrastructure, knowledge of officers, and behavior of sorting officers. Waste generated during the study period was 50,95 kg with an average generation of 7,28 kg/day. The dominant composition of waste is organic waste (35,62%), plastic waste (27,47%), and paper waste (18,64%) which have the potential to be recycled. The waste management that is carried out needs to improve the aspects of waste management to be able to achieve the goals of environmentally friendly waste management and generate economic potential from the waste management that is carried out. |
