ABSTRACT
Background: Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease that associated with
various complications. International diabetes federation (IDF) 2015 shows that there
are 415 million people with DM in the world. One of Complications that can be caused
by DM are diabetic foot ulcers. Treatment Diabetic foot ulcers must be treated properly
to avoid infection. Red betel leaf can be used as an alternative and can accelerate
wound healing process.
Purpose: This study was to determine the content of substances and their functions in
the leaves betel and knowing the effect of giving red betel leaf on wound healing.
Methods: This study uses a literature review method with the Narrative type literature
review.
Result: the content and substances contained in betel leaf are flavonoids and saponins
which can help the wound healing process. And the effect of giving betel leaf this red
can speed up the wound healing process.
Conclusion: the content and functional substances of red betel leaf (pipper crovatum)
are: flavonoids and saponins that can accelerate the wound healing process, as well as
using red betel leaf can be seen in the 4th action, namely the emergence of red color in
the wound, reduced slough, no infection and granulation.
