Hudoq Kawit of Dayak Bahau is discussed here not just for its ritual characteristic. It acts as an example that the idea of cultural preservation cannot be separated from the environment where meanings and values are constructed as part of cultural identity. Within a qualitative descriptive method, the relation between symbolic culture and human interactions with their environment is explained to persuade readers’ awareness of the nature of indigenous culture. Then, it also discursively offers a view that policies related to cultural preservation must synergize with other’s policies in different fields to achieve a holistic work for sustainable development as Indonesia is working on the ratification of the UNESCO 2015 Convention.en_US
