Scabies is a disease caused by infestation of the parasite Sarcoptes scabiei varian hominis.
Based on the results of interviews with the Baitul Walad Orphanage, there are 15 children who suffer
from scabies symptoms.
This study aims to determine the relationship between the physical condition of the
environment, personal higiene, and knowledge of the incidence of scabies at the Baitul Walad
Orphanage Loa Buah Samarinda. This type of study is case control with a case group of 15 people
and a control group of 30 people. The sampling technique uses total sampling, that is, the entire
population is used as a sample. Bivariate analysis used the chi square test with a confidence level of
95% (α=0.05).
The results showed that the variables that had a meaningful relationship with the incidence
of scabies based on statistical tests were personal hygiene (p = 0.016), knowledge (p = 0.045).
humidity (p=0.000), lighting (p=0.001), ventilation area (p=0.008), while variables that have no
meaningful relationship are the occupancy density variables (p=0.135).
The incidence of scabies at the Baitul Walad Orphanage Loa Buah Samarinda has a
relationship with some variables, that was personal hygiene, knowledge, humidity, lighting, and
ventilation area, while the variables of residential density do not have a meaningful relationship with
the incidence of scabies. Therefore, recommended to the Bailtul Walad Orphanage Loa Buah
Samarinda to conduct regular and thorough examinations of all children, as well as improve
environmental sanitation factors and also carry out mass treatment for all children
