Abstract
Background : Contact dermatitis is a skin disorder that arises due to contact with materials/substances that stick to the skin while working in the workplace environment. Informal sector workers such as motor repair shop workers are at risk of contact dermatitis because the work process carried out requires workers to come into direct contact with irritant materials. Purpose : The purpose of this study was to determine several factors related to contact dermatitis in motor repair shop workers in the work area of the Loa Bakung Public Health Centre, Samarinda. Method : This study is an analytical research study with a cross-sectional design with a total sample of 40 respondents. Samples were taken using the purposive sampling method. Data analysis used fisher's exact test. Result : The results of this study showed that the proportion of workers with contact dermatitis were 22 (55,0%) motor repair shop workers. The result of fisher’s exact test showed that there are significant relation between the length of contact with contact dermatitis (p value = 0.033), the use of PPE with contact dermatitis (p value = 0.002), the personal hygiene with contact dermatitis (p value = 0.002) and the knowledge with contact dermatitis (p value = 0.006). Concluded : It can be concluded that the length of contact, the use of PPE, personal hygiene, and knowledge are factors related to contact dermatitis in motor repair shop workers in the working area of the Loa Bakung Public Health Centre, Samarinda. It is recommended that motor repair shop workers maintain personal hygiene and use personal protective equipment while working to reduce the risk of exposure to contact dermatitis.
