This study aimed to assess the level of ammonia biofiltration influenced by different media and the increasing of media surface area, and the dynamics of water quality influenced by the ammonia biofiltration process by using plastic pipette as biofilter media. This study used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments with 3 replications, namely; P1 = control using bioball (1 bioball ~ 0.02 m2); P2 = plastic pipette (A = 0.02 m2); P3 = plastic pipette (A = 0.04 m¬2) and P4 = plastic pipette (A = 0.06 m2). The results showed that the level of biofiltration efficiency did not differ significantly to all treatments including control, however the ammonia elimination capacity was significantly different as a result of the increased area of biofilter media. Measurable water quality characteristics indicated good range values for both the ammonia biofiltration process and for the survival rate of the fish. In general, the use of plastic pipette can replace the function of bioball as biofilter media.en_US
