This study reveals the information on mammal species found during the monitoring activity in the reclamation-rehabilitation areas post coal mining of Kaltim Prima Coal Co. Ltd. The monitoring used direct observatio~ signs searching, camera trapping and cage trapping. Further ecological information has been studied to observe their response on habitat change (in other words, better land coverage) in the areas. Three reasons which are connected one to another can be addressed to explain the presence of particular species and their abundances in the areas. Firstly. the vegetative growth provides such particular niches and habitat components. Secondly, the species presence in the area is closely associated with the existence of considerable remnant forest patches left during land clearing for coal mining purposes. Finally, the species occurrence in the areas and the likelihood of their occupancies are influenced by the distance between the rehabilitation patches and a pool of biodiversity.en_US
