UJI KETAHANAN API KAYU SENGON (Paraserianthes falcataria L. Nielsen) BERDASARKAN LAMA PERENDAMAN DAN KONSENTRASI BAHAN PENGAWET BORAKS (Na2B4O7.10H2O)
Abstract
The purpose of this study is to find out the effectiveness of fire resistance from borax preservatives
(Na2B4O7.10H2O) in sengon wood based on different immersion and concentration periods. The parameters
measured are retention, burn intensity, maximum temperature and length of repair. The treatment used is the
length of immersion of 1 day, 3 days and 5 days and concentrations of 5%, 10% and 15%. The results of this study
showed that the average value of dry water content of air in Sengon wood obtained a value of 14.081%, the dry
density of air 0.326 g/cm3 and the dry density of the furnace 0.295 g/cm3. The highest retention average value at
5-day immersion with a concentration of 15% of 38.044 kg/m3 and lowest in 1-day immersion with a concentration of 5% of 5.999 kg/m3. The highest burn intensity value on 1-day immersion with a concentration of 5% of 20.933% and the lowest in 5-day immersion with a concentration of 10% of 11.405%. Zincon wood preservation using Borax at concentrations of 5%, 10% and 15% and 1 day, 3 days and 5 days soaking is less effective in withstanding the rate of fire. The highest value of fire resistance effectiveness in W2K3 treatment (2-day immersion with a concentration of 15%) is 5.249 and the lowest value in W1K1 (1-day immersion with a concentration of 5%) is 1.280. The lowest wetting maximum temperature at W1K1 (1-day immersion treatment with a concentration of 5%) was 179.0°C and the highest at W3K3 (5-day immersion with a concentration of 15%). For the lowest wetting length in W1K1 (1-day immersion with a concentration of 5%) 276.0 seconds, the highest wetting length in W2K2 (3-day immersion treatment with a concentration of 10%) 520.9 seconds, while the control treatment was 209.6 seconds.
