Abstract
ADMINISTRATION OF MICROENCAPSULATED PROBIOTIC AT DIFFERENT DOSES TO CONTROL MOTILE AEROMONAS SEPTICEMIA IN KELABAU FISH (Osteochilus melanopleurus Bleeker).
This research aimed to find the best dose of Staphylococcus edaphicus (BPs2) bacteria, which have been isolated from the intestines of kelabau fish to control Motile Aeromonas Septicemia disease caused by Aeromonas hydrophila. Ten fingerlings of kelabau fish have been cultivated in a 20 L aquarium with controlled water quality. Microencapsulation of S. edaphicus (BPs2) bacteria was administered to kelabau fish at doses of 0.0%, 0.5%, 1.0% and 2.0% at a concentration of 1010 CFU/g feed for 30 days at satiation in the morning. The fish were challenged by the injection of A. hydrophila AH-1, 0.1 mL/fish at a concentration of 106 CFU/mL intramuscularly on the 31th day and maintained until the 37th day. The results showed that the fish that were fed with S. edaphicus (BPs2) with dose of 1.0% highest in survival rate, with the lowest number of A. hydrophila in the fish blood, better hematological parameters and immune response than fish in other treatments. Based on these results, the 1.0% dose of microencapsulated S. edaphicus (BPs2) is the best dose in controlling MAS disease and has the potential to be a probiotic in cultured fish.
