Abstract
Evaluation of probiotic potential bacteria isolated from the gut of Kelabau Fish (Osteochilus melanopleurus) to inhibit freshwater fish pathogens. This study was conducted to evaluate the ability of four isolates bacteria (BPs1, BPs2, BP3 and BeP1) from the gut of Kelabau fish (Osteochilus melanopleurus) as potential probiotic. Fingerling of Kelabau fish reared for 21 days and fed with bacterial isolates with a concentration of 106 CFU mL-1 at a dose of 0.05 mL g-1 to day 13. Fish are fed twice a day at satiation and the administration of bacteria is done once in the morning. The challenge test with Aeromonas hydrophila (AH-1) and Pseudomonas sp. (PS-1) bacteria was carried out on day 14 by injection intramuscularly with a concentration of 106 CFUmL-1 at a dose of 0.1 mL fish-1. Some parameters such as clinical symptoms, anatomical pathology of fish organs, survival rates and the total number of Aeromonas hydrophila (AH-1) and Pseudomonas sp. (PS-1) bacteria in fish blood showed different significant results with the administration of Kelabau fish gut bacteria compared to negative controls. BPs2 isolate showed the best ability to protect the fish from the Aeromonas hydrophila (AH-1) and Pseudomonas sp. (PS-1) infections and potentially as probiotic in fish identified molecularly as Enterobacter cloacae.
