dc.description.abstractAbstract. The purpose of this research were to study the knowledge of the society about medicinal plants in terms of their species, the way of preparing them and organ/part their usefulness. This research were also intended to study the perception and appreciation of the society towards the medicinal plants, to identify medicinal plants, to find out the characteristics of certain ecology based on the density, patterns of distribution and the association among the species of medicinal plants. and to find out the chemical contents of particular medicinal plants. Based on the results of interview, there were 132 plants species which were used as medication by the people, 81 species were used by the Dayak Kenyah and 95 species were used by the Punan. These medicinal plants consisted of 105 genera and 57 families. The density of the plants in each location was categorized as low. The patterns of the medicinal plants distribution were generally in groups rather than evenly distributed. The result of phytochemistry showed that there were 100 % species of medicinal plants contained alkaloid, 73.68 % species contained triterpenoid, 26.32 % species contained steroid, 52.63 % contained saponin and 94.74 % contained flavonoid.
