Abstract
Abstract. The objectives of this research were to isolate and determine of essential oil content from leaf and bark of cinnamon and to separate eugenol from cinnamomum oil using any variant of NaOH concentrations and temperatures as well as to determine of rendement and quality of cinnamomum oil influenced by different treatments. The research resulted that the rendement from cinnamomum bark oil using air drying treatment was 0.8955 % and by sun drying treatment was 0.7755 %, whereas the rendement from cinnamomum leaf oil using air drying and sun drying treatments were 2.0040 % and 1.5445 %, respectively. The diverse index of cinnamomum bark oil using air drying treatment was 1.5676 and by sun drying treatment was 1.5786, whereas the diverse index of cinnamomum leaf oil using air drying and sun drying treatments were 1.5305 and 1.5434, respectinely. The density of cinnamomum bark oil using air drying treatment was 1.0324 g/cm3 and by sun drying treatment was 1.0376g/cm3, whereas the density of cinnamomum leaf oil using air drying and sun drying treatments were 1.0290 g/cm3 and 1.0324 g/cm3, respectively. The optical rotation of cinnamomum bark oil using air drying treatment was +4.325 and by sun drying treatment was +5.425, whereas the optical rotation of cinnamomum leaf oil using air drying and sun drying treatments were +3.050 and +5.225, respectively. The solubility of cinnamomum bark oil in 70 % alcohol using both treatments were 1 : 3, whereas the solubility of cinnamomum leaf oil in 70 % alcohol using both treatments had also the similar results of 1 : 1.5. The cinnamaldehide content from cinnamomum bark oil using air drying treatment was 63.131 % and by sun drying treatment was 61.04 %. The result of gas chromathography analysis showed that the best treatment to obtain high eugenol content in the cinnamomum bark was 4 % NaOH in 60o C, whereas 4 % NaOH in 45o C was the best for oil from the cinnamomum leaf.
