STUDI KELIMPAHAN DAN KEANEKARAGAMAN PLANKTON DI PERAIRAN MAHAKAM SEKITAR PULAU KUMALA KECAMATAN TENGGARONG
Abstract
Plankton has an important role in in the waters because in general plankton they are used as a natural food
source for other biota and as a source of nutritional water. Plankton around the island of Kumala is
influenced by the activities of the Mahakam river and activities that occur on Kumala Island itself. The
purpose of this study was to determine the abundance, diversity, uniformity, dominance of plankton in
Mahakam river around Kumala Island, Tenggarong District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan
Province. This research was conducted from October to November 2018. Plankton was sampled using with
Plankton Net No. 25, then preserved using Lugol. The identification of plankton is carried out in the Water
Quality Laboratory of the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences. There were 22 species of plankton
identified, including 15 were identified spesies of phytoplankton and 7 zooplankton. Plankton abundance
ranges from 226,469 ind/L to 410,998 ind/L where the lowest abundance is identified at station 3 and the
highest at station 1. The diversity index of the entire research station (1.85 - 2.48) is included in the category
medium diversity (1 H’ 3). The uniformity index of the entire research station (0.84 - 0.94) indicating the
spread of individuals was fairly even. The dominance index of the entire research station (0.14 - 0.22)
indicating there is no spesies dominates in the waters
