Abstract
The host plants of butterflies are plants where the larvae and adults get the food, essential nutrients and the protection. Although the adults are more generalist, but otherwise the larval stage are specific to their host plants generally. Therefore, the host plants will greatly determine the existence of the butterfly species. Based on host plant’s role, this study was focused to identify host plants of butterflies in young secondary forest of Mulawarman Education Forest, host plant’s role to butterflies and butterfly preferences to their host plants. The result study showed that there were 24 plant species consisting of 21 families used by butterflies imago for host plants, namely Zingiberaceae, Acanthaceae, Maranthaceae, Hypericaceae, Dipterocarpaceae, Malvaceae, Areacaceae, Moraceae, Fabaceae, Ulmaceae, Rubicaceae, Vitaceae, Lauraceae, Euphorbiaceae, Melastomaceae, Piperaceae, Urticaceae, Poaceae, Olacaceae, Sympolaceae and Apocynaceae. These host plants were used by butterfly’s imago for sunbathing, perching, eating, drinking and taking shelter. During the study, only Koruthaialos rubecula that showed a preference to Stacyphyrinium repens as host plant, and these plants were used for sunbathing.
