dc.description.abstractDengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) is the main health problem in Indonesia. East Kalimantan always in top five provinces with the highest DHF incidence in Indonesia from 2012 to 2015. DHF patient needs to be hospitalized in a certain condition, but without specific treatment rather than monitoring and intravenous fluid therapy. From that condition, many patients seeking alternative herbal supplement for DHF. This is a descriptive study conducted on DHF patients in Abdul Wahab Sjahranie County Hospital Samarinda East Kalimantan. The majority of DHF patients (79.6%) using herbal supplement along with DHF treatment in hospital. There is seven herbal used by DHF patients, i.e. guava (Psidium guajava), dates (Phoenix dactylifera), papaya (Carica papaya), meniran (Phyllanthus niruri), temu hitam (Curcuma aeruginosa), turmeric (Curcuma longa), and red yeast rice (Monascus purpureus). Better promotion and education efforts of herbal supplement usage for DHF patient in the hospital needed, especially in East Kalimantan. Keywords: supplement, herbal, dengue hemorrhagic fever
